Emerging Technology Forum
Where is the Green ($$$) in Green IT?
June 20, 2007 | 6:00-9:00 PM | 950 Page Mill Road | Palo Alto
Event Host: Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati

The prospect of “green” data centers has moved center stage. It has come about as these core computing centers have expanded significantly to meet the increased enterprise demands of new services like Web 2.0,online publishing, data warehouses and business intelligence. With storage and compute cycles on the rise, hungry blade servers are consuming 10x to 20x the power of previous generation IT systems. The typical data center energy cost is anticipated to rise from $800K to nearly $5M over the next few years, making energy the second largest IT cost factor at most data centers around the globe and the #1 issue for CIOs, according to recent surveys. Beyond internal cost pressures, state and federal regulatory requirements and community concerns about global warming are forcing data centers to conserve power by moving to green tech.

New pressures bring new opportunities for technology and business model innovation. This is especially true in case of the looming IT power crisis.

The Emerging Technology Forum will host an evening panel discussion on the trends, innovation and opportunities for start-ups looking to bring new technology to the power game. In this session, we'll examine new conservation, monitoring and management solutions, the new Green Grid consortium and other initiatives designed around the Greening of IT.
