Going Global: Where do we go from here?
December 13, 2011 | 6:00-8:30 PM | 1801 Page Mill Road | Palo Alto
Event Sponsor: Frank, Rimerman + Co. LLP
Silicon Valley companies think globally from the start, with a view towards foreign markets, international talent and global sources of capital.
The Going Global Special Interest Group (SIG) series will examine common issues encountered by startup and established companies in expanding their business offshore as well as for foreign or multi-national companies coming inbound into the US market. The series will cover a variety of critical strategic and tactical issues such as intellectual property, human resources, and data privacy, as well as specific concerns for industries such as solar, life sciences and web based technology companies doing business internationally.
We will kick off our first Going Global SIG with a panel discussion of important considerations for the US company that is thinking of expanding internationally, such as:
- When should a company consider expanding internationally?
- How does a company go about establishing foreign operations?
- What are some common pitfalls to avoid in going global?
The panelists will include international businessmen and advisors as well as VC’s with experience in investing in global companies, both in the US and abroad. Attendees can expect to hear real life stories from companies that have been there and obtain practical guidance based on their experience. The panelists will discuss the major issues in expanding offshore and how to prepare to enter a foreign market, whether as an operating company or an investor, through a branch or another affiliation.
